Why don't different cellular providers networks interfere with each other when they use the same frequencies?
Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, and MetroPCS all provide cell service in my area. I wanted to know how is it that their networks don't interfere with each other when they use the same frequencies and transmission technologies? For Example Sprint, Verizon, and MetroPCS operate in the 1900 MHz band and they all use CDMA but they don't interfere with each other
CDMA stands for Code Division Multiple Access. Essentially each data stream (call) is assigned a unique code which identifies that portion of the overall data stream. So your phone will only decode information with the correct code identifier preceding it...so you will never hear anyone elses call.
Also..there are many individual frequencies inside the PCS bands from 1870Mhz to 1990 Mhz with pieces allocated to major carriers when the FCC auctions bandwidth off.
